Cupcake Club: The Cat in the Hat

Here at the library, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday a little late this year.  I decided to have a Cat in the Hat themed Cupcake Club this month and it was a hit!

First we donned Dr. Seuss hats and read The Cat in the Hat.

Then we played a Dr. Seuss matching game with characters from his different books.  After the game I tried to shoo them out, but those smart little cookies knew it was time to make their cupcakes.  And what better way to end the day then creating that famed red and white hat out of marshmallows and icing on top of a cupcake?

(Thanks to the Michelle over at Sugar Swings for her adorable idea!  Ours weren’t quite as fancy, but they were delicious all the same.)

Read Across America 2011

Many schools and libraries across the country celebrate Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2nd.  You know this day is coming because suddenly there are no Dr. Seuss books left on your shelves.  This year, we are making it easy for our patrons looking for Seuss with a display promoting this event.  I’ll be celebrating in my own way with a program later in the month.  All I’m going to say right now is:  Cat in the Hat, marshmallows, and hats.  You’ll have to stay tuned to find out the rest.

In the meantime, check out our display!  I had to take a picture of it now because I’m sure the books will be gone by the end of the day.
